The Starfish Institute is a new advisory group that supports leaders to catalyze enduring field-level change on complex problems. We work across a range of persistent social challenges that have resulted in decades of inequity, including healthcare, democracy, housing, justice, education, and more, and have worked with a variety of clients ranging from large corporations to nonprofit associations. Starfish’s unique approach emerged from 100Kin10, the initiative to prepare 100,000 STEM teachers in 10 years, and its success. 

As we continue to grow, we are looking for sharp consultants who are interested in contributing to projects when our internal capacity or skill sets need a boost in the coming months. We are interested in connecting with individuals who have one or several of the following areas of expertise: 

  • network cultivation and management, 

  • experience design and facilitation, and

  • qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. 

We are also interested in meeting people who have strong skills in project management (including client management), landscape research, and proposal-development. 

We are committed to centering equity, and especially racial equity, in all of our work. We see this as a lifelong journey, both as individuals and as an organization, and are continuing to push ourselves to more deeply embody this commitment in all areas of our work. We are looking for people who share this commitment, have experience centering equity (specifically racial equity) into their work, and who are excited about joining us and being our partners in this journey. Additionally, attributes that will help individuals thrive in a relationship with Starfish include a hunger to tackle complex, sticky social issues, a belief in the power of collective action or joint problem-solving, and an interest in systems change. Other important characteristics include a comfort with ambiguity, resourcefulness, a high caliber for output quality, self-motivation, and reliable follow-through.
